Tarik’s musical journey began in earnest at the age of 16, when he became the sole bass student of internationally acclaimed bassist Slam Stewart. By age 21, Shah was touring the world with legendary vocalist Betty Carter. From there, he has performed and recorded with a stunning array of Jazz legends, including Ahmad Jamal, Randy Weston, Abbey Lincoln, Pharoah Sanders, the Duke Ellington Orchestra, Dr. Lonnie Smith and so many more.

Currently, Tarik is performing extensively throughout New York State and elsewhere in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states. He is also very active as an educator, offering private lessons, workshops, lectures and more.
